PART TWO: Our trip.

Here is a follow up to the blog of Oct 25th (It has been a while)
We are now going further south along the coast. Our next stop was with Loma and John in Smith River, CA. As usual, the PEO hostess and her husband were wonderful. Their home was right on the ocean. What nice people we met along the way.

From Smith River we continued South along the coast. We passed through Redwood forests and beautiful scenic seaside areas.

Our next stop was in Ukiah, CA., with Shirley and Walter. We were on our way to San Francisco.

On the way, we visited Petaluma and found a really big antique store. It was 3 stories tall and was originally a bank. They had lots of "stuff" we didn't need.

The next night we had dinner in Sausalito. The view was wonder and the food was great. We stayed in a motel north of San Francisco. I just couldn't see driving in the city.

Here is the reason for our trip. Sharon with Scott, Kathy, Jacob and Joshua.

Mother and Son! Then Scott has his new toy.

Here is a family picture of our San Jose Hostess Pat, her husband Dick and Flossy. This is the second time we have stayed with them and are becoming great friends. What nice people.

I will continue with the trip sometime in the near (I hope) future. It will include pictures from Monterey to San Clemente and then back home. Please check back.

Oregon-California Trip

We have just returned from a 3600 mile trip that took us through Idaho, Oregon, California,Nevada, Arizona and Utah.
Sure glad to be home!

I will try to give you highlights, but not bore you to death. There are so many memories and pictures to share.

Day 1 : Sunday, Oct. 11. This was our long drive. We left Cedaredge about 6:30. Our first stop was in Jerome, ID. We were delivering a snow board and other things to Kevin. He is Sharon's nephew. Next, an overnight stop with Dan and Bonnie Dixon in Greenleaf, ID. Dan is Sharon's cousin. They live on and operate a large farm just outside Greenleaf.
Day 2: We followed the Columbia River to Portland. We stopped in Hermisten, OR. to meet Shellie's future Mother-in-law.Shared lunch with Gloria, her sister Betty Lou and her husband Jerry. (Gloria is on the left)
We went on to Portland. Sharon is a member of PEO. PEO is a sisterhood with chapters in many cities. Some of the members offer a "Bed and Breakfast" in their homes with the revenue going to local scholarships. We stayed with PEO Sister, Lois. She lives in a beautiful home near downtown Portland.

Day 3: We are now starting our trip down the Oregon coast. The weather was nice at first, then changed to high winds and rain. I think pictures taken in these conditions are sometimes better than those from a clear day. Hope you enjoy these.

We stayed with PEO Sister Karen and her husband Ralph in their beautiful seaside home. Ralph has constructed the most beautiful model train room. Karen is the artist that painted the walls to show off the room. Two wonderful and talented people. Here is a picture of their beautiful home and two pictures of Ralph's train room. This is only part of the railroad layout. I know that Ralph would have closed the access holes if I had given him time.

More pictures from the central Oregon coast. We took several picture of the Umpqua Lighthouse. Umpqua, we are told, means "full Stomach". The Native Americans of the area found this to be a land of plenty.

I will continue with the trip blog sometime soon. Maybe today-maybe tomorrow.

Long Overdue Update

This has been a very busy summer. Sorry I haven't kept the blog up. In the spring, Sharon and I joined our friends Sharon and Bob (Yes-strange!) for a trip to the mountains to fix some fence. It was hard work, but rewarding. Here are a few pictures of the trip.

Sharon, Penny, Riley, Bob, and Sophie-left to right.
All of us outside the camper. You can see we were really roughing it!
We were on private land above the "Arrowhead Resort". It is located off the road between Montrose and Gunnison. Just over the hill is Lake City (we were told. They kept us working instead of site seeing.)

Here we are on a "work vehicle" Yes, we really did work!

We also ate pretty well.
Sharon in the "Kitchen." Tough life.
We did take time for a ride through the mountains.
There will be more about the summer later. Watch for an update about Bob at the Chapel of the Cross. Hope to have video soon.
There is also work being done on the family cabin on Grand Mesa. Pictures to follow.

Grand Mesa

On Monday, Sharon and I took a ride to the top of Grand Mesa.  The snow depth appears to be at least 5 feet.  The shocking part of the trip was the color of the snow.  Because of the heavy winds, the snow has a layer of dirt on top.  The dirt will probably increase the speed of the snow melt.  I expect a short but strong runoff this year.  Still, I doubt if we can get to the cabin before the first week in June and the lakes will probably not be open any earlier than that.

I have included several pictures of the dirty snow and a movie of the view from half way back down the mountain.  The building covered with snow is the Grand Mesa Visitors Center.  The panorama is showing mountains from Paonia through the San Juan's and on to Lone Cone.  The air was really clear that day.

Santa Fe For Easter

Sharon and I just returned from an Easter visit to Shellie's home in Santa Fe. We went down on Thursday and back on Monday. Lots of wind on the way down and snow while we were there. Friday was nice and we went out to see Tuppence (Shellie's horse). We all had a little ride.
There will be more about this trip later.

Here is a video of the old Edison record player in the cabin on Grand Mesa.  It is now residing in our computer room, on loan from my Cousin George.  I am in the process of recording, to CD, all of the records that have been in the player for all these years.

Again, I am learning how to Blog, so forgive me if this doesn't come through.  I think it will work.  Let me know.  Bob
