Grand Mesa

On Monday, Sharon and I took a ride to the top of Grand Mesa.  The snow depth appears to be at least 5 feet.  The shocking part of the trip was the color of the snow.  Because of the heavy winds, the snow has a layer of dirt on top.  The dirt will probably increase the speed of the snow melt.  I expect a short but strong runoff this year.  Still, I doubt if we can get to the cabin before the first week in June and the lakes will probably not be open any earlier than that.

I have included several pictures of the dirty snow and a movie of the view from half way back down the mountain.  The building covered with snow is the Grand Mesa Visitors Center.  The panorama is showing mountains from Paonia through the San Juan's and on to Lone Cone.  The air was really clear that day.

Santa Fe For Easter

Sharon and I just returned from an Easter visit to Shellie's home in Santa Fe. We went down on Thursday and back on Monday. Lots of wind on the way down and snow while we were there. Friday was nice and we went out to see Tuppence (Shellie's horse). We all had a little ride.
There will be more about this trip later.
